Gerry Hammer

Gerry Hammer received a B.S. in physics from Xavier University in 1974 and an M.S. in experimental solid state physics from West Virginia University in 1976. In 1977 he joined Universal Energy Systems as a contract research scientist in the Surface Interactions Branch of the Air Force Materials Lab, primarily using XPS to analyze aluminum and graphite fiber surfaces for adhesive bonding and composites.

In 1979 Gerry joined The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, where he was the lead scientist with responsibility for surface and interface analysis using XPS, AES, and SIMS, as well as a variety of other analytical techniques. His primary interest included the relationships between materials, processing, surface and interfacial chemistry, and product performance, especially in rubber to metal bonding, and sample preparation and data analysis techniques. He retired from Goodyear in 2009.

In October 2009 Gerry joined SARC as a research scientist. He works on industrial and academic research projects, trains new users, and maintains instrumentation.

His personal interests include reading, hiking, birding, woodworking, and playing guitar.
