Professor Patrick S. Stayton

Pat Stayton is Washington Research Foundation Professor of Bioengineering and Director of the Molecular Engineering & Sciences Institute at the University of Washington. Dr. Stayton will have a primary role in the TRD and collaborative projects involving the synthesis of polymeric nanoparticles for drug delivery, as well as the synthesis of peptides and ordered proteins. He will act as a consultant on TRD and collaborative projects involving polymeric nanoparticles and engineered proteins. Dr. Stayton has extensive experience in the areas of synthesis of polymeric nanoparticles for drug delivery as well as site-directed mutagenesis of proteins and the preparation of oriented proteins.

Dr. Stayton received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Illinois-Champaign in 1989 and was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology. His research group works at the interface of fundamental molecular science and applied molecular bioengineering, with application of nanomaterials to the drug delivery, medical diagnostics, and regenerative medicine fields.
